hello we are a band

With three vocalists and no men, Half Nelson is a band that makes music for people who feel too much, think too hard and want to dance about it anyway. Living somewhere between indie and punk has allowed Half Nelson to seamlessly share stages with bands of all genres - from Saturdays at Your Place to Thelma and the Sleaze - while still creating a space all their own. Formed in Louisville, Kentucky, in 2022 when guitarist/vocalist Ann Gilly, drummer/vocalist Megan Day and keyboardist/vocalist Kelly Krucki met by cosmic coincidence, Half Nelson gained its final form with the addition of bassist Jessica Chao in 2024.

Half Nelson has played shows consistently for four years, including out of town shows in neighboring states and festivals like Midwest Friends Fest, Mag Bar Fest and PRFBBQ Louisville. Their live show is energetic, engaging and personal - when you're at a Half Nelson show, the boundary between the stage and the audience disappears. This was made apparent quickly to Christina Ward, co-founder of Bad Catt Records, who signed Half Nelson to the label after seeing them live just once. With Bad Catt, the band has released two original singles, contributed a song to a cover compilation album and is planning to release a new EP in late 2026. Keep in touch to see what Half Nelson does next.
